The paper “Multiphysics Simulation of In-Service Welding and Induction Preheating: Part 1” was selected as the best paper published in 2024 in the Research Supplement section of the Welding Journal, the technical-scientific journal of the American Welding Society (AWS)—the most traditional and widely recognized in the global welding field.The work is authored by Kaue C. Riffel, Régis H. G. e Silva, Antonio J. Ramirez, Andres Acuna, Giovani Dalpiaz, and Marcelo Torres Piza Paes, and originated from the sandwich PhD thesis of Kaue Riffel, then a researcher at LABSOLDA.
The Inova UFSC Award is an initiative of the UFSC Department of Innovation (Sinova) that recognizes solutions, inventions, and projects with measurable results created within the university environment. The award ceremony took place on November 27, 2024, at 1:30 PM, at the Guarapuvu Auditorium – UFSC Events Center.
In this 1st edition, tributes were paid to pioneers of intellectual property at UFSC. The patent for the "Pulsed MIG/MAG welding process with thermal pulsation or double pulse" was honored as the 1st patent without external co-ownership.The invention patent was filed in 2000 by researchers Jair Carlos Dutra, Raul Gohr Junior, Larry Fiori Ollé, from LABSOLDA and the Department of Mechanical Engineering - CTC. Ownership was transferred to UFSC on January 2, 2007.
Members of LABSOLDA received an Honorable Mention in the Calgary Award during RIO PIPELINE & LOGISTICS 2025, held between September 9 and 11 in Rio de Janeiro (RJ)[cite: 1, 2]. The work entitled “Structural Optimization of a 20-Inch Pipe Clamp Using Arc-Based Additive Manufacturing” was developed with a focus on innovative solutions for the oil and gas industry[cite: 1, 2]. Best Paper Award presented at the 47th National Welding Congress (CONSOLDA) and the 3rd Brazilian Additive Manufacturing Congress (CBMAdi), held between August 25 and 28, 2025, in Joinville-SC[cite: 1]. The award-winning paper, entitled “Multiparametric evaluation of the stability of the CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) variant of the MIG/MAG process”, was selected as the highlight in the Best Paper category. The paper was presented by Daniel Galeazzi and co-authored by Professor Regis Henrique Gonçalves e Silva, coordinator of LABSOLDA, and Professor Mateus Barancelli Schwedersky[cite: 1].
The LABSOLDA team was recognized at the Petrobras Inventor Award, which highlights Intellectual Property Generation results derived from research projects funded by the company. The Petrobras Inventor Award 2025 ceremony took place on August 19, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro (Impatech/Porto Maravalley). The most recent patent filing was "Bolted clamp with localized structural reinforcement produced by additive manufacturing (2025)".

On May 24, 2023, members of the Institute of Welding and Mechatronics (LABSOLDA), belonging to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UFSC, were awarded the Petrobras Inventor Award for the second time. This award recognizes the innovation capacity of LABSOLDA members in the 23rd edition of the event. The first achievement occurred in 2021.
The award for best paper presented at the 12th COBEF was granted to doctoral student Alisson Fernandes da Rosa (POSMEC), regarding the scientific work developed at LABSOLDA “Technological insights into the tig multi-cathode welding process” which featured the participation of professors Régis Henrique Gonçalves e Silva and Mateus Barancelli Schwedersky, as well as undergraduate students Tiago Ballmann de Campos and Felipe Batista (Materials Eng.).

The award for best paper presented at the 11th COBEF was granted to Mechanical Engineering student (EMC/UFSC) Victor Igor Berbare Lemos, regarding the scientific work developed at LABSOLDA “CHARACTERIZATION AND ANALYSIS OF PLASMA WELDING WITH DYNAMIC WIRE FEEDING”, which featured the participation of professor Régis Henrique Gonçalves e Silva, doctoral student Alisson Fernandes da Rosa (POSMEC), and undergraduate students Victor Igor Berbare Lemos (Mechanical Engineering) and Felipe Batista (Materials Engineering).
Professor Régis Henrique Gonçalves e Silva, supervisor of the Institute of Welding and Mechatronics (LABSOLDA) (UFSC), was a winner of the Stemmer Catarinense Innovation Award, receiving 2nd place in the Innovation Agent category. Among the results of the work developed at LABSOLDA, the professor received the award for establishing cooperation agreements with German institutions for student exchange and partnerships with major industries such as WEG.
LABSOLDA won second place in the Science, Technology, and Innovation Institution category of the Stemmer Catarinense Innovation Award promoted by FAPESC. The Institute of Welding and Mechatronics at UFSC presented three outstanding innovations among its developed projects.
