LABSOLDA Supervisor Gives a Lecture on R,D&I in Welding at the Southern Forum of the CREAs of SC, PR, and RS

On July 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., LABSOLDA/UFSC Supervisor, Prof. Dr. Eng. Régis H. G. e Silva, gave a technical lecture during the Southern Forum of Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering Specialized Chambers, hosted at CREA-SC headquarters in Florianópolis. Under the theme "R, D & I in Welding Processes and Automation - from Literature, through the Experimental Bench, to Field Deployment", the presentation addressed the complete technology development cycle for the productive sector. The professor highlighted the importance of scientific knowledge regarding process physics and technological mastery as the foundation for developing solutions that meet real industry demands.

LABSOLDA thesis wins ABCM/FBTS 2025 Award for Best PhD Thesis in Welding

Researcher Dr. Álisson Fernandes da Rosa, from LABSOLDA – Institute of Welding and Mechatronics at UFSC, was the grand winner of the ABCM/FBTS 2025 Award in the Best PhD Thesis in Welding category. The award is promoted by the Brazilian Association of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (ABCM) in partnership with the Brazilian Welding Technology Foundation (FBTS). The award aims to recognize contributions from the academic community that drive technological development, efficiency, safety, and innovation in the industrial materials joining sector.

LABSOLDA stands out at the UFSC booth at SC Expo Defense 2026

On May 21 and 22, 2026, LABSOLDA – Institute of Welding and Mechatronics participated as one of the main highlights of the UFSC booth at the 4th edition of SC Expo Defense - Innovation and Technology. The event, held at the Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (FIESC) in Florianópolis, is considered the largest and most important Defense and Security gathering in the Southern region of Brazil.The invitation to join the university's institutional space is due to LABSOLDA's solid history in developing highly relevant technologies for strategic sectors, such as energy, oil, and gas. As the only representative of the Florianópolis campus at the booth, the institute reaffirmed its strategic role in scientific-technological development.

LABSOLDA hosts international lecture on material heterogeneities with professor from ÉTS Montreal

On April 9, 2026, LABSOLDA hosted the lecture "Material heterogeneities and their consequences in mechanical engineering", given by Prof. Dr. Philippe Bocher, from the École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) of Montreal, Canada. The event took place at the UFSC Mechanical Engineering Auditorium and brought together students and researchers interested in the convergence of metallurgy and mechanical engineering.

LABSOLDA receives visit from SLV Rostock, an institute of the DVS – German Welding Society

On March 17, 2026, Prof. Regis Silva received at LABSOLDA the CEO of SLV Rostock, Dr. Rigo Peters, who was accompanied by Eng. Sarunas Plenaitis, Director of the R&D Department, and Carla Zelewski, Advisor. SLV Rostock is one of the institutes belonging to the network of DVS, the German Welding Society. The visit aimed to strengthen technical relationships, present the infrastructure of LABSOLDA – CTC – EMC – UFSC, and discuss potential collaborations. Scientific-technological cooperations within the scope of funded projects, as well as academic exchanges, are envisioned.

LABSOLDA wins 1st place in the Inova UFSC 2025 Award with Additive Manufacturing technology

LABSOLDA – Institute of Welding and Mechatronics at UFSC was one of the main highlights of the Inova UFSC 2025 Award, held on February 26, 2026, at the university's Culture and Events Center Auditorium. The laboratory won 1st place in the "Innovative Team" category, within the Process Innovation modality. This recognition is the result of work developed in partnership with Petrobras, selected from over 300 submissions for its strategic contribution to the science and technology ecosystem.The award-winning technology, named SI-WAAM CMT (Integrated Arc-Based Additive Manufacturing System), consists of an advanced system that utilizes predictive models and adaptive thermal control for the manufacturing of complex metallic components.
