Teaching, research, and development in Welding Technology: processes, procedures, equipment, and instrumentation

LABSOLDA presents welding technologies and interactive simulation at UFSC Rural 2026

Welding is decisively present in a wide range of sectors, including the Rural sector, which is strategic for Brazil. Welding processes are widely applied in the manufacturing and maintenance of agricultural equipment, directly impacting its quality, integrity, and reliability. On August 28, 2026, LABSOLDA was present at the UFSC Rural 2026 event, held at the Agricultural Sciences Center (CCA/UFSC) in Florianópolis. Featuring an interactive booth, the laboratory brought demonstrations of welding automation and augmented reality simulation to the public, promoting integration between technological research and the community.

UFSC Rural – Connecting people to the universe of Agricultural Sciences is a free, open outreach initiative that aims to bridge the gap between society and the scientific knowledge produced at the university. The event brought together various teaching centers, laboratories, and research projects from UFSC to present solutions and technologies in an accessible and dynamic manner.

Representing LABSOLDA, the laboratory's supervisor, Prof. Dr. Régis Henrique Gonçalves e Silva, and researchers Dr. Alberto Bonamigo Viviani and Dr. Daniel Galeazzi participated in the event.

During Friday's program, the LABSOLDA booth caught the attention of local school students, university students, and community visitors. At the booth, the laboratory featured orbital TIG welding equipment with a digital controller and displayed on-screen videos of process analyses recorded with a high-speed camera.

One of the main highlights of the booth was the Soldamatic welding simulator. Configured for practicing MIG/MAG welding on a lap joint, the tool allowed visitors to experience laying down a weld bead in practice. At the end of each demonstration, participants received technical guidance and could evaluate their performance regarding key manual welding parameters, such as travel speed, torch height, work and travel angles, and estimated mechanical strength of the deposited bead.

Participation in UFSC Rural reinforces LABSOLDA's commitment to university outreach, bringing cutting-edge scientific research closer to society and encouraging young students' interest in technological careers and engineering.
