PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this project is the study and development of innovative technologies for TIG, MIG/MAG, and Plasma electric arc welding processes, as well as hybrid versions (also involving the LASER process). The general objective also includes the development of automation systems and sensors, as well as inspection techniques, to support technological services provided during the period to research and the application of the welding processes to be explored, within the scope of the project. Welding processes represent a significant portion of the cost of industrial manufacturing operations. Considering the reality of the Brazilian industry, it is possible to observe that the processes used still fall far short in terms of technology and productivity compared to developed countries, thus presenting a great potential for cost and efficiency improvement through their modernization. Increasing the quality and productivity of welding processes requires their automation, both regarding the mechanization of operations (robotization) and the sensing and inspection techniques applied.
