Abstract:
In the overlay welding, some characteristics of the weld beads are wanted, as the low penetration and an appropriate profile to the union with adjacent beads, besides the longed for condition of high productivity. The welding process GMAW is quite used in overlays by being considered of high productivity and easily automated. However, to reach better her results in the overlay welding a new process is proposed, derived of the process conventional GMAW, baptized for PS-GMAW (synchronized polarity). In the PS-GMAW process it happens the welding with the positive polarity and also with the negative polarity synchronized with the weaving path of the weld bead, adding like this the positive aspects of these two polarities. In the central area of the weaving, negative polarity is applied to obtain high productivity with low penetration and dilution. The positive polarity is only used in the extremities of the weaving with the objective of obtaining appropriate geometry to the union with adjacent weld beads avoiding like this discontinuities for lack of fusion. The new process, PS-GMAW, it was revealed quite effective and robust, becoming a good option of paradigm break for the overlay welding.
