Cavitation erosion repair in our plants were performed by meas of SMAW, and conventional stainless steel rods. When we started using special alloys, serious difficulties arised related to weldability. The Welding Laboratory of the Federal university of Santa Catarina developed a welding equipment technology with grate versatility, as well as all the welding procedures specifically aiming at our apllications. Together with the new alloys, this development enabled an increase in the interval between repairs in the Salto Santiago plant for example, from 4 to 6 years. This represents a significative gain, increasing the machine availabilty in 2.0 % to 2.5 %, at this plant.
